GABA Plus is a blend of nutrients, botanicals, neurotransmitters and neurotransmitter precursors designed to support calming brain activity. We specifically designed this supplement to reduce the stress related hyper-vigilance we see in our practice, which manifests as being constantly tense or on guard. This activity exhausts the adrenal glands and slows healing, due to being sympathetic dominant. We like to think of it as NATURE in a pill.
Calming Ingredients

PharmaGABA™is a natural form of GABA produced with the help of Lactobacillus hilgardii – a beneficial lactic acid bacteria used in the making of the traditional Korean vegetable dish known as kimchi. There is a lot of controversy in regards to whether GABA is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. In our clinic, we find that many people notice the effects of GABA by itself, which may indicate a “leaky gut and/or brain”, but that doesn’t mean we want to continue putting the larger GABA molecule through that pathway, this is why we utilize PharmaGABA™.

German Chamomile

It has been suggested that the German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) constituent apigenin, binds to central benzodiazepene receptors, causing anxiolytic effects (anxiety reducing) without impairing memory, diminished motor skills or drowsiness. It is reported to promote calmness via the inhibitory action of GABA, similar to benzodiazepines, but without the side-effects of these commonly prescribed pharmaceutical medications.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a nutrient essential for optimal brain function. Because PS is crucial for the overall health of brain cells, research on PS has shown that it benefits a wide range of brain activities. Phosphatidylserine and inositol are included in GABA Plus for supporting proper neuron membrane structure for maximum membrane fluidity, receptor function, and response to neurotransmitters, hormones, and cell-signaling compounds. We use a sunflower lecithin derived phosphatidylserine.

L-theanine is an amino acid that is able to cross the blood brain barrier and is found naturally in green tea and in higher doses in matcha tea. With the inclusion of L-theanine and taurine, we provide clinically-proven nutrients to reduce stress and improve the quality of sleep.

5-HTP – Central Nervous System Support

5-HTP can be used as a precursor to serotonin, which can support endogenous serotonin and melatonin production. Serotonin is a very important calming neurotransmitter known as “the feel-good hormone.” In the Central Nervous System (CNS), serotonin has been implicated in the regulation of sleep, depression, anxiety, aggression, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation.

When using 5-HTP for enhancing serotonin and melatonin production to promote calmness, healthy mood and sleep, reduction in pain perception and lessening of IBS symptoms, the addition of the synergistic nutrient pyridoxal-5-phospate, an activated form of vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin) is suggested to catalyze the conversion of 5-HTP to serotonin (5-HT) and for proper methylation required for neurotransmitter production.

Magnesium Malate

GABA Plus also includes the fully chelated magnesium malate involved in proper
nerve transmission, muscular contraction/relaxation and general relaxation responses.

Interactions with Drug Therapy

5-HTP may not be suitable to administer along with SSRI and MAOI medications
without clinical and laboratory monitoring. Please discuss this with your health care
provider before using this product with any of those medication classes.

Who should take GABA Plus?
GABA Plus should be considered for patients and consumers with:
• Increased levels of stress and anxiety
• Individuals who are easily agitated and frustrated
• Those with documented deficiencies in the neurotransmitters supported by GABA Plus
• Anyone with chronic global pain conditions
